Leung Yee Tai and Wong Wah Bo were the members of the Red Boat Opera that were credited with teaching Yip Man's grandmaster, Leung Jan, his Ving Tsun skills. Some historians have concluded that the Read Boat Opera was actually a cover for revolutionaries as they traveled around the country distributing anti-Qing propaganda. Both Leung Yee Tai and Wong Wah Bo allegedly learned their fighting skills from fellow opera troupe member, Leung Lan Kwai. A popular story relates that Leung Yee Tai had also befriended a cook on the Red Boat who in reality was the Shaolin monk Jee Shim. Jee Shim (along with Ng Mui) was one of the five people who allegedly survived the burning of the Shaolin Temple by the Qing government. Leung Yee Tai and Jee Shim exchanged ideas and it was during this time that the six-and-a-half-point pole was incorporated into the Ving Tsun system. Please see the Ving Tsun history section for more details. Return to the Ving Tsun lineage section>>>
