Sifu Philip NgIn addition to being a 6th generation practitioner and instructor of Choy lay Fut Gung Fu under the supervision of his father and teacher, Sifu Sam Ng, Sifu Philip Ng is also an avid practitioner and instructor of Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Gung Fu. A student of the late Sifu Wong Shun Leung, Sifu Philip Ng continues to spread Sifu Wong’s teaching through the Ng Family Chinese Martial Arts Association that he had founded with his father. Aside from his studies of the Chinese martial arts, Sifu Philip Ng also partakes in the study of arts such as Western Boxing, Korean Tae Kwon Do, Japanese Jujitsu and Filipino Escrima. Brief BiographyPhilip Ng immigrated to America from his native Hong Kong at the age of seven. Upon arriving in the United States he began his scholarship of the martial arts with Hung Gar and Choy Lay Fut under the supervision of both his father and uncle. At the age of 13, Philip Ng began his study of Ving Tsun Gung Fu with his uncle Alan Ang and Tae Kwon Do with Master Woon S. Shim. To further his education in the field of Ving Tsun Gung Fu, Philip Ng traveled to Hong Kong and become the student of the great Sifu Wong Shun Leung. He traveled and trained tirelessly with Sifu Wong until his untimely passing early in 1997. Before his untimely passing, Sifu Wong Shun Leung encouraged Philip to begin instructing students in America to become training partners. Thus, Philip Ng initiated the Illini Ving Tsun Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Sifu Philip Ng spent five years presiding over the association as both the head instructor and club president. Time spent at the University had not only awarded Philip a masters degree in education, but training and sparring with other martial stylists gained him the knowledge and applicable skill in the arts of jujitsu, western boxing, and escrima. In his efforts to promote the Chinese martial arts, Sifu Philip Ng has written articles for various national and international martial arts periodicals. In addition to serving as an official for numerous national and international martial arts competitions, Sifu Philip Ng has also coordinated and participated in numerous public performances. Philip Ng currently resides in Hong Kong where he is a working as an actor, action director, and martial arts choreographer. |
