Level one

  1. Siu Lim Tao – first section
  2. Stance push drill
  3. Siu Lim Tao – second section
  4. Stationary Tan/Jum drill
  5. Siu Lim Tao – third section
  6. Chain punching
  7. Single hand Chi-sao (both parts– Fook Sau /Tan Sau)
  8. Pak Tan Bong vs. Chain punching drill

Level two

  1. Double hand Poon Sau (rolling hands)
  2. Stepping back
  3. Stepping forward
  4. Stepping with partner in from Poon Sau position
  5. Pak Sau entry (without stance switching) in Poon Sau (offense and defense)

Level three

  1. Chum Kiu – first section
  2. Switch stance
  3. Switch stance with chain punch
  4. Switch stance with Bong Sau
  5. "Noodle" drill - stage 1  + stage 2 (level change)
  6. Chum Kiu – second section
  7. Triangle Stepping (with and without punching)
  8. Pak Sau entry (with stance switching) in Poon Sau (offense and defense)
  9. "Noodle" drill - stage 3 (backward triangle stepping) + stage 4 (forward triangle stepping) + stage 5 (compound triangle stepping)
  10. Lap Sau
  11. Chum Kiu – third section
  12. Gum Sau entry in Poon Sau
  13. Lap Sau to Pak Sau entry in Poon Sau

Level four

  1. "Noodle" drill - stage 6 (free-flow)
  2. "Finding the Line" drill
  3. Gor Sau (sparring from Chi Sau position)
  4. Ving Tsun focus mitt drills
  5. Technical sparring
  6. Free sparring with safety gear (from open position)

Instructor Level 1–Apprentice Instructor-(optional test given only by Sifu Phil Ng)

Black Sash

Level one

  1. First three sections of the Mok Yan Jong (Ving Tsun Wooden Man Dummy)
  2. Staff punching

Level two

  1. First section of Biu Gee
  2. Second section of Biu Gee
  3. Third section of Biu Gee
  4. The final five sections of the Wooden Dummy

Instructor Level 2 –Senior Instructor- (optional test given only by Sifu Phil Ng)

Level three

  1. Six and a half point pole form

Level four

  1. Sticky Staff -
    • Pak gwan
    • Tan gwan
    • Saat gwan (inside/outside)
    • Lau gwan (inside/outside)
    • Huen gwan (inside/outside)
    • Staff sparring

Level five

  1. Blade form by sections

Level six

  1. Drills against the staff
  2. Blade sparring with padded blades (or rolled newspaper)

Instructor Level 3 –Full Instructor- (optional test given only by Sifu Phil Ng)
